June 8, 2020 Dr. Ron Martinez has created a new course for UC Berkeley's Summer English Language Studies program (part of the College Writing Program). The 10-week class (delivered remotely), entitled "Writing for Academic Publication," is designed to help students develop a manuscript they intend to submit for publication (for example, in a scholarly journal). A sample of the course is available to view here at the UC Berkeley b-courses environment.

June 6, 2019 Due to the success of the pioneering English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) teacher training program started by Ron Martinez at UFPR in 2016, the department of distance education (CIPEAD), in a special agreement between UFPR and the seven state universities of Parana, launched the very first Brazilian hybrid EMI training course, coordinated by Ron Martinez and taught by Ane Cibele Palma and Daniel Persia. December 7, 2019 The very first seminar on English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in Brazilian higher education was held at the Universidade Federal do Parana (UFPR). The event, organized by Ron Martinez, showcased the classroom practices of Brazilian EMI professors and featured nationally and internationally-respected EMI researchers. Read more
November 14, 2018 Ron Martinez has been awarded a grant by the British Council to research issues of language proficiency in English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI). The research will be conducted in partnership with Cambridge University Assessment in the United Kingdom. Find out more here

March 20, 2017 Ron Martinez and Denise Abreu e Lima, president of the Brazilian national program Idiomas sem Fronteiras (Languages without Borders), have embarked on a new partnership that aims to bring the concept of UFPR's Centro de Assessoria de Publicação Acadêmica (CAPA) to scholars all over Brazil. October 7, 2016 Ron Martinez is the founder and creator of Brazil's first real university writing center. The Centro de Assessoria de Publicação Acadêmica (CAPA) will help students and professors from not only the Federal University of Paraná, but all over Brazil. People who need help with any kind of academic writing, including research articles in English to be submitted to international scholarly journals, will now have a free place to turn to. July 18, 2016 The University of Oxford comes to the Universidade Federal do Paraná for the first time in the history of the university to run a special training course on English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), coordinated by Ron Martinez. Read more about the course here.
August 12, 2016 New article by Ron Martinez and Karin Graf on English for Research Publication Purposes (ERPP) issues at the Federal University of Paraná. The study, entitled 'Thesis supervisors as literacy brokers in Brazil' is the first of its kind at UFPR in that involved interdisciplinary research collaboration between Ron Martinez of the Humanities (the Department of Modern Foreign Languages, DELEM), and Karin Graf of Materials Science (the Department of Mechanical Engineering, DEMEC). The article has been published this month in a special edition of the journal 'Publications' focusing on issues of non-native speakers of English (edited by Margaret Cargill) who need to publish their research internationally.
