Ron received his PhD from the University of Nottingham (UK), where he studied corpus approaches to applied linguistics, and his Master of Science from the University of Oxford, where he studied Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition. He also holds a DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) from Cambridge University (ESOL). He has published his research in a number of international scholarly journals, including TESOL Quarterly, ELT Journal, and Applied Linguistics. He has also authored several popular English-language learning books internationally and specifically for Brazilian learners, such as Taboos and Issues, Conversation Lessons, and Como Dar Palestras em Inglês. He is currently a professor of English at the Universidade Federal do Paraná, where he is a former pedagogical coordinator for the MEC program Inglês sem Fronteiras, and the current representative for the Humanities Sector on the Advisory Council to the UFPR Agência de Inovação. In addition, he is a member of the British Council English Medium Instruction Advisory Group for Brazil, and the founder and leader of a CNPq research group entitled Internacionalização de Pesquisa Cientifica Brasileira. His most recent interests, therefore, concentrate on curricular innovation with an internationalized focus, particularly in the areas of English Medium Instruction (EMI) and English for Research Publications Purposes (ERPP). Most recently, he founded the first true writing center in Brazil, the Academic Publishing Advisory Center, or the Centro de Assessoria de Publicação Acadêmica (CAPA).
